Rebuilding the tooth-supporting apparatus – root cementum, fibre bundles and bone – can be encouraged with enamel matrix proteins. These enable the human body to restore the natural supporting apparatus by imitating the processes that take place while a tooth is developing. Regeneration of the entire supporting apparatus begins immediately after treatment with enamel matrix proteins and continues over a longer period. In some cases this tissue-building process lasts more than a year.
