Dental glossary — terms beginning with J

Jacket crown – also called a porcelain jacket crown – an all-ceramic or porcelain crown used mostly at the front of the mouth, usually as a single crown. It is made without a metal framework and is therefore particularly attractive aesthetically. Producing it in the dental laboratory is very demanding. Fitting a jacket crown does, however, require a good deal of tooth substance to be ground away.

Zygomatic bone – the cheekbone – is a small bone of the facial skeleton at the outer edge of the eye socket and forms the lateral frame of the face. It connects the upper jaw upwards to the frontal bone and backwards, via the zygomatic arch, to the temporal bone. The zygomatic bone is prone to painful fractures.
