Polishing the teeth with special polishing instruments

After the fine cleaning, the teeth are polished with special polishing instruments and a fine-grained polishing paste. The teeth are smoothed. Rough spots are an ideal nesting place for bacteria to settle again. The preceding cleaning steps have roughened the tooth surfaces, and if left unsmoothed they would quickly be colonised by bacteria and deposits once more. To prevent this, the smooth surfaces of the teeth are polished to a high shine with small rubber cups, small brushes and polishing pastes of varying grain.
