Artificial intelligence reads the radiograph too
Software that helps analyse radiographs is now widespread in dental practices. It marks anything conspicuous, highlights possible carious lesions and presents the course of the bone in a structured way.
The benefit lies in the second pair of eyes: the software does not get tired and overlooks nothing out of routine. In studies, incipient caries is detected earlier this way than with the naked eye.
What matters is what this is not: a diagnosis. The software marks, the dentist decides. It knows neither your complaints nor your history, and it also flags findings that turn out to be harmless.
In implantology, the automatic recognition of anatomical structures in 3D scans helps above all with planning – the course of nerves and the maxillary sinus are made visible faster than by hand.
