Surgical guides from the 3D printer
Implant placement is today mostly planned in three dimensions: the jaw is captured as a data set and the position of the artificial root determined on screen – with an eye to bone, nerves and the later crown.
The decisive step is transferring that plan to the patient. For this a surgical guide is printed that fits onto the existing teeth or the jaw and guides the drill precisely. The deviation between plan and result falls considerably as a result.
That is not an end in itself. When the implant sits exactly where it belongs, it is easier to clean later, the crown sits better, and the procedure can be smaller. Ask during the consultation whether and how the treatment is planned.
